CPM as a Multi-cloud Solution

This article will discuss how Corporate Performance Management (CPM) tools can serve as a true solution for challenges business can experience when reporting and budgeting, due to data spread across multiple cloud and on-premise systems.

I recently explored multi-cloud deployments for the Solver blog, explaining the term and how it all works, so you can understand why this strategy is popular. After publishing, I continued researching and touching base with those working the most with enterprise technology and system management, whether as an IT professional, a power user, and an end user. In doing so, I continued to increasingly realize that most companies are residing in a true multi-cloud world. In general, organizations today are already leveraging the power of more than one cloud service and application, in addition to on-premise solutions, to manage the business. This can be challenging when consolidating your data from disparate sources for comprehensive, actionable analytics that inform decision-making. This article will discuss the benefits of the right Business Intelligence (BI) and/or Corporate Performance Management (CPM) suite as a true solution for life in this multi-cloud world.

Count how many systems and data sources you depend on that are cloud. If you think about the number of applications you rely on to run your company, you will probably find that the number of cloud programs is probably more than one. And of course. With cloud established as the present and future in regard to technology deployment – and just the convenience of support and rollout for both the vendor and the consumer, it makes a lot of sense that the enterprise technology you’re utilizing to complete your work is cloud-based. But, with information coming in from different systems, this can be quite a challenge in terms of general data and system management as you consolidate data sets for corporate reporting, analysis, and budgeting. Let’s look at an example.

One professional I discussed multi-cloud deployments with quickly stated that they were already in deep with a multi-cloud workflow. While they were running Microsoft Dynamics and a tracking program for projects, both online, they also rely on ADP for HR and payroll management and Salesforce for Sales Team activity, as well as Google Analytics for ad tracking and web statistics, all cloud-based. Each is a transaction-based application, offering their own proprietary, typically not user friendly and limited reporting tool. Because some are on-premise and others are in the cloud, information is spread out in ways that make consolidation for richer, comprehensive reporting and budgeting problematic. In other words, integrating between systems is more difficult than ever because this organization is moving in different directions due to a hybrid cloud and on-premise configuration for their required enterprise software. If you’re like most organizations navigating the multi-cloud world, you can probably relate. But what is a valid solution, aside from pulling all of your data into Excel and manually compiling it into reports?
